The Old World (Backstory)
In the beginning, long ago, there were two major ruling factions: House Straud and House Shallot. The Straud were a line of old-blood vampires, who used their immortality and cunning to influence events from the shadows. Their rivals were the Shallots, a blueblood family of royalty, with great shining armies to command. The hatred between the two ran deep. For centuries, they fought bitterly, neither of the two prevailing. In the end, both houses crumbled into chaos amidst internal strife. Few survived the initial war, many more died to disease and famine in the following years, and by the end of it, nothing but the wind remained, to blow on the bleached skeletons of that forgotten time. The sims that survived forged a new life for themselves among the ashes.

House Shallot [Ramson] (Lineage Backstory)
House Motto: "Ex Tellure Spes" - "From the Earth, Hope"
Lord Bernard Escargot Shallot, then only a child, washed up upon the shores of a quiet provincial town next to the sea, later known as Windenburg. He eventually married a woman of the court named Mimsy Alcorn, and inherited her family's estate. They lived in the now-dubbed Von Haunt Manor, a sprawling mansion with chalet gardens on rolling hills. A fire tragically ended their lives shortly after their marraige, but their newborn child Synra was recovered from the aftermath. She would grow up under the care of the local Lord, one Bennith Ramson. She eventually married him and giving birth to son Ryben, who in turn took Lady Marie Elisor as a wife, who bore son Ryme. Decades rolled by and the dynasty stagnated as the older generations died.
It seemed that the Shallot House's line had come to an end, until a certain Annaline Tre Volaire caught young master Ryme's eye in a park. Annaline left her loveless marriage to elope with Ryme, sacrificing her life as a vampire to become mortal. It would only be one short year before the House Straud Patriarch discovered and murdered his granddaughter and her husband, but not before they bore a son, Mirne. Mirne lived in hiding from the terrible vampire for many years, eventually growing to adulthood and catching the eye of a peculiar young woman. Vlad eventually discovered Mirne and the latter perished, but the Shallot lineage lives on through his wife Au-Quaa and Mirne's infant daughter, Merina. As long as she lives, the noble house of Windenburg has a spark of hope, and now with the Ryyenne fleet at their backs, also a powerful ally.

House Straud [Arbiss] (Lineage Backstory)
House Motto: "Familia, Victoria, Immortalitatis" - "Family, Victory, Immortality"
While the old world went up in flames and chaos made mistress of man and nature alike, the vampires who could escape desolation through bat or mist form tried to do so. Few succeeded the initial attempt, and even fewer made it through the following years during the Great Famine (known as the Great Drought for children of the night). Count Vladislaus Romulus Straud, then a young vampire-in-training, had just enough willpower and desperation to claw his way back from the embrace of the reaper through drinking the plasma of savage creatures, but watched as many of his blood brothers and sisters perished to starvation or the harsh sunlight.
Weak with thirst and shriveled through contact with the sun, Vladislaus fled to a land of night - Forgotten Hollow. Here, the difference between men and beasts blurred, and the feeble vampire regained his strength slowly through lurking soundlessly in trees, drinking when safe from temporarily sedated or weak targets. He rose in power and stature in the nightmarish land, winning the hand of a beautiful noblewoman named Arenne from a neighboring region. She was chronically frail and sickly, and liable to fits of coughing in an ailment known as Vrykólakas Phthisis, an infamous disease in the vampire community which slowly eats away at the insides of the victim and has no known cure. She bore one child, a girl named Avenelle, but succumbed to sickness shortly after. Avenelle eventually grew into a beautiful young vampire, married a goodhearted vampire named Sir Laurant Volaire and had triplets - Araminne, Addallei, and Annaline. Their youngest, Annaline, was eventually betrothed and married to an older noble vampire named Baron Sephiram Iathral Arbiss, bearing their child Acanthia Rin Arbiss to a lap of luxury and wealth.
Time passed for House Straud. Avenelle passed away from Vrykólakas Phthisis after holding out for years. Araminne and Addallei, both born with the same disease as their mother and grandmother, died shortly after becoming young adults. Their father, grief-stricken by the deaths of his wife and most of his children, killed himself shortly after. Despite many of his kin wilting around him, life went on for Vladislaus. Annaline, the last of her sisters, was unhappy in her loveless and abusive marriage, but remained with her husband and young daughter for years. One day, however, when she was visiting a secluded garden, the young vampire woman fell in love with Lord Ryme Shallot, the youngest generation of that bitterly hated rival house from the old world. She eloped with him and abandoned her husband, fleeing with her new love and giving up her old blood to become mortal. They had a child shortly after, born into the world as a human boy named Mirne. Vladislaus, enraged by the transgressions of Annaline to the royal vampire bloodline, ambushed and murdered both parents when they came to visit the graves of her sister and mother. He tried in vain to end the young Mirne as well, but the young boy was nowhere to be found. Vladislaus sought the last remaining member of the Shallot lineage, Mirne, for years without success. His prey reached adulthood before the great vampire was finally able to claim his life, but Vlad can rest easy now in his absolute belief that the bloodline of the Shallot empire has been wiped out for good, and his family will grow to rule Nost for eternity.

House Florentine (Lineage Backstory)
House Motto: "In Pulchritudine Virtus" - "Beauty in Virtue"
House Florentine, unlike the old blood dynasties, emerged suddenly from ordinary sims. They came, however, from a very extraordinary source. By the mercy of some higher being, two very special sims, Lily Harmonia and Lotus Florentine (G1), were molded from earth and dust of the cosmos, and placed upon the soil of Nost. They were the first in an entirely new region, with no existing townsfolk or infrastructure of any kind. Lotus happened upon Lily, and together they began building a life together in the land that they dubbed Newcrest. Aging much slower than all the other sims around them, but yet, still human and nothing more, they made a home for themselves and began dreaming of children. Lily had a hard time conceiving, however, and the two began to get disheartened. Their creator took notice of this and crafted a teenage, purple-haired girl named Lavender (G2), a child just like they'd dreamed of. It was not long that the child was in the world, however, but she was snatched away as quickly as she came. An innocent dinner party was held before the family of three were to move to a larger house, and their long-awaited child Lavender collapsed suddenly, dying in a fit of unforeseeable hysterics.
The grieving parents built a memorial room in the home and worked tirelessly for years and years to try and revive their daughter, to no avail. They began to heal and move on from the loss and eventually had two daughters naturally, named Lilac and Laurel. Still, they mourned for their first daughter, and sought to bring her back. Finally, after many long nights, they found a cure! Their dear daughter Lavender was revived, and with her revival, a twin sister named Oasis was brought into the world too! The awe-struck parents saw this as an irrefutable sign that their god really did watch over them, and they and their four daughters carved a path through Nost, using their fame and fortune to help erect countless community lots. Their daughters went out and achieved as much (and perhaps even more) than they did, and Oasis began a family of their own with husband Uriel (Super Sim Challenge). Lily and Lotus grew gracefully into old age, becoming respected members of Newcrest and living to see their children and grandchildren grow to inherent all they built together. However, the pair were only mortal, and they eventually passed away peacefully.
As the years passed and Oasis became a mythical figure all her own, she adopted Jet, who she rescued from an abusive home situation. Jet and Oasis was the first little family before the rest came to be, and it was from all she learned with Jet that Oasis was such a good parent to her other kids. Jet had a wonderful childhood and grew gracefully into his teenage years, eventually marrying childhood friend and high school sweetheart Perla. They had one pair of beautiful twins, Akoya and Tahitia. Time passed for the family besides Lavender, and her sister and her husband (Oasis and Uriel) passed away in their old age. With their deaths, the most legendary sim Nost has ever known, Oasis, has passed on. With Jet and Perla's deaths following some years later, it's now up to the fourth and fifth generations to carry the Florentine torch and make Nost a better world.

House Fade [Petalfall] (Lineage Backstory)
House Motto: "lorem ipsim" - "english text here"
The old Petalfall lineage was thought to be lost to time. Oberon, Titania, and their three children experienced but fleeting existences in Nost, but perhaps that's how all time feels for fey. The eldest of the children, Helena, did have strange human-like memories of living within a larger group of girls in a city far away, but it might have just been an afternoon fancy while laying next to the waters of the Sylvan Glade. Effervescent, that family existed and then passed into non-existence, but not before a human child was born. Who of the three bore her, or did they perhaps steal her away as her cradle lay in the whispering fronds? No one knows, and the child has no memory of the others, but even still, Juniper existed. Retaining some of the fanciful existence that her family had, she never married, but instead had a brief encounter with a stranger. That encounter yielded a daughter, now fully grounded in the earth and with none of the strange magicks that wound through her mother's life. Now it is the daughter's time, with a young child of her own. Nost will see more of this mysterious family yet. [First family I ever created in the Sims franchise]

The Ryyenne (Colonization Backstory)

Matriarch: Kawinna
Patriarch: Karkinja
Royal Daughter: Kayrrna
Royal Son: Kamyrne
Maiden: Yyrna
Brave: Myrne
Mated Maiden: Yyrn
Mated Brave: Myrn
Nost Cultivation:
The ethereal, maren-like aliens known as the Ryyenne inhabit Orion, an almost entirely aquatic planet. They eventually became space-faring and sent off scout pods to investigate other galaxies for similar sentient life. On one of their trips, they discovered a newly-formed Nost, which was then only a swirling ball of potent gas with small marine life deep within its oceans. Hopeful for another marine-based civilization, the Ryyenne visited several times during the inception of Nost as we know it, patiently cultivating the planet so its atmosphere was suitable for larger creatures to flourish. Despite the fact that the organisms they nurtured eventually evolved to live semi-aquatic and then entirely land-dwelling creatures, the Ryyenne quietly aided in many of the breakthroughs of early sims. The last time they visited Nost, fledgling civilizations had appeared near river valleys and oceans. The visiting pod returned to Orion, reported their successes to the ruling heads, and prepared for their very own royal family to take a few-hundred years visit to the new planet they had helped develop.
Ryyenne in Nost Culture (Sim Perspective):
It is unknown when the Ryyenne first began to observe simanity, but their presence in the history of Nost is undeniable from the earliest cave paintings to Medieval and Renaissance motifs. Considered a myth for most modern day sims but with a small base of staunch advocates for their existence, it is said that the Ryyenne are elusive, graceful, wise, and good creatures. Extremely potent mind control and telepathy, influencing the emotions of nearby sims, and the ability to control local weather systems were all supposed powers that they wield. It is debated where the Ryyenne originate, as some believe they are from another planet, and others believe they are more Maren in nature. Many scientists compare their existence to the aliens from the neighboring planet of Sixam and believe that the more "common" breed of aliens originated from the Ryyenne, though the two species seem physiologically and culturally distinct from each other. Modern day Sixam-originating aliens exhibit acutely weaker pyschic powers than the projected abilities of the Ryyenne. For years, San Myshuno government officials and Oasis Springs scientists worked tirelessly to determine the existence of the Ryyenne, but nothing came of their efforts.
Ryyenne Mythos:
It is said that in the beginning of the first tribe of maren-folk, the great deity chose the most worthy of the world by blessing two special Ryyenne with legendary luminescent scales and great powers to go with them. The mark of the Ryyenne royal family, therefore, is unmistakable blue and purple scales adorning the faces of the chosen when they mature into teenagers. Few ordinary Ryyenne teens are blessed in the same way, but those who are quickly marry with the children of the royal family to create the new generation of leaders.
Hierarchy & Royal Family:
The Ryyenne hierarchy is a curious but effective mix of monarchical, tribal, and socialist ruling structures. Matriarchal by nature, the Kawinna (Kah-winnah) and her husband, the Karkinja (Car-kin-ja) rule absolutely, with the Kawinna taking over the lions share of governmental duties. Though Ryyenne don't age like regular sims and have a natural 1,000 year lifespan, the children take a long time to rear and the royal family cultivates them for centuries before they are ready to assume any royal court responsibilities. The daughters (Kayrrna) and sons (Kamyrne) of the royal family, thus, are the treasures of Orion and great care is taken to ensure they mature safely. The current ruler, Kawinna Au'Shiyenna and her husband Karkinja Au'Ranosse have only ruled for a few hundred years, but already they have produced a beautiful daughter, Kayrrna Au'Quaa.
Duties:
The Kawinna and the Karkinja oversee different aspects of Ryyenne life. The Kawinna is the leader of all of the Ryyenne, dictating all social, political, and natural affairs. She directly communicates with the deity of the Ryenne and is revered among her subjects. The Karkinja traditionally spearheads the legion of myrne and myrn (Mi-yearn-ee for unmarried, Mi-yearn for married), who forage and hunt in the surrounding seas for edible plants and wild marine life. Usually seen in dark blue attire and mounted upon riding dolphins or sharks, the myrne also patrol the borders of Ryyenne cities to keep watch from the monsters from the deep. The females of each city, known as yyrna and yyrn (unmarried and married, respectively), care for the extensive amount of species and ecosystems within Orion and tend to local and regional government issues.
Lore Update (May of 2020): The Kawinna and Karkinja spent several years looking into whether Nost would be habitable for their people, and if the massive migration away from their home planet Orion would be successful. Nost was deemed suitable to their needs, and aware that their young daughter Kayrrna was set to inherent her mother's mantle and all of its responsibilities, the royal pair set out on the long trip back home to begin making preparations, giving their sheltered daughter her first real taste of freedom as she stayed in Nost alone awaiting their return. Her parents busy themselves with matchmaking on their home planet, blissfully unaware that their daughter had been lovesick over a human man. Though Kayrrna tried to hold out in respect for her parents, the pull of love was too strong and the royal daughter bore a son through him before his untimely demise at the hands of a strong vampire. Now, Kayrrna awaits an uncertain future, left on Nost alone to care for her infant daughter and the great weight of an entire civilization.
