March & April of 2023: Nostalgia is Founded!
The island of Nostalgia was christened in late March of 2023 with myself, Sylvia the uchi Kangaroo, and Bill the jock duck. The native fruit is pears and the native flower is the cosmos. We started with a river island that I choose to be a bit different from Meadow, and it was nice to play the early game again after three years. A quick rundown of some early achievements:
Of course, Cherry Blossom season arrives and so too does Bunny Day, and it really overlaps this year. I meet Norma the normal cow on a NMT trip and she moves in, and the next morning I discover the adjacent plot autofilled to Tasha the snooty squirrel. Blanche the snooty ostrich follows soon after, as does Maddie the peppy dog. I also wish on my first few stars during this time and get my first hybrid flowers, orange tulips! In the week around this time, the Nooklings open the first iteration of Nook's Cranny, the Able Sisters set up a shop, and I hit 3 stars! K.K. Slider's concert is delayed by two days as the Spring Fishing Tournament runs back to back with Bunny Day -- K.K. comes that Monday instead. Bill moves out and I fish my heart out to get a bronze, silver, and gold fishing trophy. Static moves in on Monday but gets dragged out to the plaza for the very first K.K. concert, after two patient days of waiting after getting 3 stars. Waiting for the concert for several days was a bit annoying but I did still cherish the extra "early game" time I got to have.
With the KK Concert completed, the full game is unlocked for me. Kap'n gives his first boat tour, where I find Brewster, my first gyroid fragment, and my first landscaping plant: azalea bushes. I visit Meadow and have coffee and a date night with Tyler, my husband! Over the course of the month, Harv and Harriet expand the Co-op to feature several small shops. Kap'n takes me on an island where I find my first carrots, Harriet gives me my first haircut, and I roll out a custom clothing line in Able Sisters. When Leopold moved from Nostalgia, I had a big villager search and find many neighbors I adore from Meadow (Kitt, Apollo) and several good villagers (Coco, Pekoe, Marina, Petri, Tipper), but I don't take them because I was looking to fill the smug or jock villager types which I'm missing. Instead allow the plot to auto-fill overnight and Audie FROM MEADOW moves in! What?? I had no idea she was still in the queue. I was really hoping for a smug or jock, but it's ok for now. Finally, towards the end of April, I unlock all of Harv's Coop stalls, Nook's Cranny upgrades, I get a handful of hybrid flowers, and I begin to finally adjust the terraforming of the island to what I want. It takes ages, into the next blogpost.
- Tom Nook gives me one free Nook Miles Ticket and I take it and find Shino, and she becomes the third Nostalgia resident.
- I focus up and get Cast Master on my 100th reel, and it felt amazing.
- I finish the house furnishing request and two other neighbors autofill: Al the lazy gorilla and Skye the normal wolf.
- I meet many wandering visitors: Wisp, Gulliver, Harvey, and Pascal, Redd, Luna, Leif (first crop is potatoes!), CJ, Flick, Label, and Saharah.
- Leopold the smug lion is my campsite villager and briefly gives me Lionel dread but he was actually not too bad.
